Ginger

We adopted Ginger two months ago. She was brought into the place that I work to be on TV.  Madison showed her to me and I just had to have her.  I have 3 other poms at home, all of them male, and I knew Ginger would fit right in.  Since then we have been so blessed to have her in our home.  She loves to go for walks and loves to play in the back yard with the other three.  She loves the treats we give her and she has put on a little bit of weight. But she is still beautiful with the best personality. She loves my husband the most. She is definitely a one man dog but she loves me too. We are so glad that she is with us.

Lucy

We adopted Lucy two months ago.  She has become a full-fledged member of our family and is so healthy.  Lucy loves to chase and find sticks.  She is also a very good napping companion.  Thank you so much for what you do!

Niki

We adopted Niki when she was about six months old, about two years ago.  My boyfriend originally wanted a German shepherd mix, but when I saw this cute little fluffy Eskimo Spitz mix that LHS called 'Snow White' I knew that little princess was for us.  She has learned so many trickes and plays with our cat without any problems.  We take her to the dog park and she gets along with every dog she meets.
Niki is the first dog I have gotten to adopt from the humane society but I will always do it in the future.  I hope to come back and get Niki a playmate!

Pete

My husband and I went to LHS to look for a sweet big dog that could keep us company while the other was gone to work.  We looked at many dogs and thought a few were cute but we just couldn't seem to find the right one that just felt like family.  Then I walked by Pete's kennel and those big brown eyes looked up at me so sad, so I asked my husband to come look at him and he said he was cute but he wanted to look around a little more before we decided.  As he walked away Pete looked at me like 'please take me home'. My husband looked back and Pete looked at him them back to me and wagged his little stub of a tail and that sealed the deal.  He has become our baby and spoiled rotten.  Thank you for providing the place where we found our wonderfull addition to or family.

Cooper

I adopted Cooper  in early February.  I had been playing around the idea of adopting a dog but had decided I wanted a very small, scruffy, older dog.  One afternoon my roommate's daughter told me of a dog she saw at LHS that day - a purebred, black and white, 8-month old cocker spaniel.  I told her I wasn't sure, I really wanted a a very small dog.  The next morning, she talked me into going to see if he was still there.  It was love at first sight.  He was perfect!
Cooper has been such a wonderful addition to my life.  I had health problems in the fall and had lost my father and another close family member around the same time.  He has brought me out of a lot of depression and his high exercise demand has improved my health  and I've lost 10 lbs. since adopting him.
Thank you for the all he work you do and thank you for my baby.

Alice

I adopted a three year old hound mix from LHS in August, shortly after moving to Kentucky from New York.  I have nothing but great things to say about Alice.  She immediately fit into my home.  She loves to go running and hiking, making her the perfect fit for me.  I took her home for Christmas and she fell in love with my young nieces and nephews, and of course, they fell in love with her.  She is truly the best friend I've made in Kentucky!  Keep up the great work and thanks for giving great dogs like Alice a second chance.

Penelope

We adopted Penelope about a month ago.  She adjusted very well and thinks she owns the place.  Her favorite things are going for a walk, begging for treats, playing pull the rope and chase the ball, and snuggling with her dad.  She is learning her commands and knows "stay, come, down" and knows her name.  She won't let us out of her sight.  She is very affectionate and sweet.  We love her very much and can't imagine not having her in our life.  Thank you for taking such good care of her.

Panda

I got Sweetie Pie (aka Panda) a few weeks ago at the satellite shelter (Hamburg PetsMart).  She had been adopted three days before but brought back the next day because the person had allergies.  She is six years old with a bad leg but she has been the most amazing little addition to our family.  The other dogs have started to warm up to her.  I figured she has had a hard life and she is just getting used to her new one.
I just want to thank LHS and all the staff for allowing me to bring this little angel home.

Bella

I went to LHS looking for a small lap dog, but instead fell in love with this big fuzzy puppy whom I named Bella.  She is the most loving and loyal dog I ahve ever met and has made her way into my heart.  Bella was there for me when my husband was gone in the Marines and laid by my side many lonely nights when I needed her love the most.  Almost two years after her adoption we now have a son and she loves him and protects him like a big sister.  Thank you for providing a place where so many animals are waiting to bless the lives of people like me.

Bear

We adopted Bear about a year ago and he has been a joy to our lives.  We are so glad that we have him.  He is a joy in our lives and a blessing.  My wife can't have kids and Bear has helped us though a lot.  I could never thank you for the joy you brought in our lives.  Thank you again.

Lucy

I originally visited the Lexington Humane society back in August with no intention of buying a dog, but just to play with the puppies.  After being there for less than an hour, I came across a pit/hound mix formerly named "Frieda."  After spending about fifteen minutes with her outside, I knew I had to take her home with me.  At first she was very shy and timid, but warmed up rather quickly.  I'm sure everyone says this but Lucy truly is the best dog ever.  I never thought that I was a "dog person" but now I really can't imagine my life without her.  I've realized that love from a dog is unconditional and she was the perfect addition to my life.

Appa

My husband and I adopted "Rocky" from the Lexington Humane Society satellite branch after visiting him at his kennel for two days.  We soon renamed him Appa, and he was quickly accepted by our existing four cats.  Like all of our cats, Appa is quite unique.  He loves car rides, visiting new places and even taking daily strolls on his harness.  He is a big boy with a big heart and there will never be another one like him.

Tyson

We came for a visit Feb. 21st just to "look around" and fell totally and completely in love with a little guy named Tyson.  After playing with him in the 'get acquainted room' and in the dog yard we knew he was perfect for us.
We took Tyson, now Ty, home with us and it has been nothing but fun, fun, fun.  He's so playful, well mannered, caring, loving, and eager to please.  Ty is just what we needed to bring all together and share in something wonderful as a family.  Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful service to the Lexington people and giving so many the feeling of love and happiness that only an adorable lap cuddling pet could do.

Marley

It has been a year since I adopted my 3 year old male boxer from LHS, and I cannot thank you all enough for giving me my best friend! Marley has helped me through so much this past year and he has always been the most loyal one in my life.  He is absolutely amazing and makes me smile on a daily basis.  As a foster parent for LHS I know what goes into making sure every possible animals can get adopted and I could never thank you all enough for giving me this wonderful dog!

Scarlett

Once again, I visited LHS and fell in love.  Her name was Sunshine but we changed her name to Scarlett.  My heart is so full since I adopted her.  She is the sweetest thing in the world and my other animals, Forrest and Ellie, absolutely adore her!

Fiona

I just wanted to share that I adopted my beautiful Fiona in June of 2008 and she is my best friend!  I am so happy that I found her and I am thankful for her every day.  She is definitely my girl and is doing excellent!  She is the princess of the house.  Thanks for the awsome work you do everyday for these animals!

Millie

My family adopted Millie from LHS in 1996 after much begging from my brother and 10-year-old self.  Millie passed away this fall but she gave us 12 wonderful years of companionship.  She came into the shelter with a litter of puppies but not a defeated spirit.  My brother and I instantly fell in love with her when she jumped into our laps - but that was the only time she ever did, the little stinker!  When we got her home she was very skinny and almost all white.  A couple of months later and lots of good nutrition, she surprised us with brown spots and a black ring around her tail.  Millie settled in quickly and became my best friend.  She was a feisty little girl who loved to play ball, ride in the car, run around the farm, and be spoiled.  She was definitely boss of the house, fully earning her nickname, Queen Millicent.  I truly miss my "fluffy puppy" and I am so thankful I got to share my life with such an affectionate, spunky, adorable mutt!

Thanks to LHS for helping so many amazing animals find new homes!

Forrest

Just wanted to let you know that my little Forrest is doing great!  I adopted him from LHS on 11/7/08 and his name at the time was "Gunner."  Forrest was so very skinny and scared that I had to bring him home.  As you can see, he is now well on his way to being a healthy happy doggie!  His older sister, Ellie, is behind him and is showing him the ropes.  He has had a few issues but he is in doggie training and with lots of work is responding well.  Forrest has helped us through the loss of a previous dog and he has brought much joy to our lives.

Abbygaile

Just an update on our sweet Rottie girl we adopted there 2 years ago.  I believe the staff called her "Face" because of a surgery on her eyes and her face had to be shaved.  She quickly blended into our family which consisted of two more Rotties and two cats.  We named her Abbygaile and we call her Dear Abby most of the time.  Also thank you folks at LHS for the love and care you gave her.  She is a big part of our life.

Joey

I just wanted to update you about our kitten.  She is doing so great and she has gotten so much bigger!  This semester I am taking a photography class and I took some sample pictures of Joey.  We liked one so much we had it framed, but I thought I'd share it with you!

Tiger

My husband and I had been thinking for a long time about getting a buddy for our girl boxer, Lexi.  I'd been scouring the classifieds for a Boxer puppy, but the price and the daunting task of potty training was putting me off.  As well as the fact that there are so many pets in shelters that need good homes.  A few weeks later, we were both in the car listening to our favorite radio station Z103 when we heard about Tiger!  I told my husband that we HAD to go down to LHS and look at him.  We saw him and fell in love instantly.  He was going home with us.

Lexi and Tiger are best buddies.  They snuggle together, play together and are inseparable.  Tiger has become a cherished member of our small family and warms our hearts with his fantastic personality.

Thank you to LHS for all you do!

Voodoo

Earlier this fall we lost our beloved basset hound. Our house felt so empty after he was gone. We decided to wait a while to get another dog as we just weren't ready right away. We always knew we would adopt from a shelter and help a dog that needed a home. In chitter chatter I mentioned to my husband maybe we should make a trip to LHS just to look. He agreed and the next afternoon off we went to LHS. We walked through the Dog room looking and petting quite a few but, nothing felt like it was the ONE for us. When we got to the very last row in one of the runs were two sweet little black pit mixes. One really caught our attention. She was so cute.  We knelt down and petted on her and her cage mate. My husband and I both had a feeling about her. There was just something about that sweet little girl named LuLu. We got her out, she had such a big personality and was so full of life! There was just something about this little girl that made us fall head over heels for her.

All the way home we talked about her and how she was perfect for us. My husband said to me that he would leave it be my final choice to adopt her. I just knew we were ready and she had to come home with us. I called the LHS and everyone was sooo HELPFUL & SWEET! I went on my lunch hour to fill out the application on her and to get the adoption started. I got the call of approval the next day. My husband picked her up on his way home and brought her by my work. Everyone just loved all over her. You have no idea how much happiness this sweet little girl has brought to us. I just wanted to say THANK YOU LHS and Staff for all you do! We are truly blessed to have found our sweet girl

Pancakes

After moving to Lexington, and getting my own place, I continually talked about getting a dog.  However, my job doesn't allow me to be home much during the day, and with long hours, it wouldn't be fair to
the dog.  Never considering myself a "cat lover," I finally decided that a cat would be the best option for my lifestyle.

After numerous visits to the Lexington Humane Society I found a 3 year old, full blooded Himalayan.  What can I say....I fell in love.

He had been brought in by a family who had too many animals, so they decided to give him up.  He was already de-clawed in the front, and neutered when he arrived. I can't imagine why anyone would have given him away, but I'm so thankful they did.  Considering his fat and fluffy figure, I felt no better name for him than...Pancakes.

I cannot even begin to explain what this little guy has brought to my life.  Two months after I adopted him, I unexpectedly lost my brother to cancer. There were many days I couldn't bring myself to get out of bed, but I did because of Pancakes.  The rest of the day when I wanted to lay in bed and be sad, he was right there laying with me.  And my non "cat lover" feelings you ask?  Well, they melted away in a second.  I've heard people say that when you adopt a pet, they will thank you by enriching your life forever. I truly believe that to be true, and I challenge you to adopt today.

Molly & Bailey

I have adopted two animals from the Lexington Humane Society....

The first one was Bailey (AKA a cat but she doesn't know that). Bailey is full of personality. She definitely isn't one of those cats that just lays around the house and is happy as long as you feed her.  She is my constant shadow and follows me wherever I go. She loves attention and meets me at the door every day when I get home. When I put my key in the door I can hear her meowing and then she runs to the kitchen and gets her treat. She has truly enriched my life.

My other success story is Molly, a little wired haired Jack Russell. She is the epitome of a cuddle bug. She is also my constant companion and goes everywhere I go. She has many friends in downtown Lexington and we are known to frequent the outside restaurants and pubs. If I don't bring her the first thing they ask is " Where is Molly?". Actually that is what I'm asked whenever I don't have her with me. She loves to go play with her Jack Russell and Lab cousins in the country and is starting to get comfortable in her own skin. She even plays with her sister Bailey and the both take turns chasing each other through the house. I could sit, laugh and watch them for hours. I have learned though that they both hate thunderstorms and Bailey seems to feel secure if she sleeps right on top of my head while Molly squeezes as close as she can to my side. Usually though, they are both content snuggling with me and their sister Maddy (AKA my first rescue kitty).  It is quite the full house.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to have these wonderful family members

in my life. I cannot imagine being without them! They truly are my best

friends!!!!!

Kiley

I just wanted to let you know about our LHS adopted "baby" Kiley.  We got Kiley at the shelter in January of this year and she has been the light of our lives ever since.  She is a beautiful yellow lab with the personality of angel.  She is calm, loving, and so smart. She was a perfect fit for our family and we love her very much.  She has also brought some spark back into the lives of our 17 year old cat (a stray kitten) and our 14 year old dog (also a shelter puppy),  Emma.  Emma has taken back the role of lead dog in the house and is trying to teach Kiley her manners.  It is wonderful to see her moving around like she is a puppy again.  Thank you for all that you do for the animals in your care.  When you take care of the abandoned, helpless, and homeless animals of this world, you do the work of angels.  Keep up the great work and thank you for bringing joy to our family.

Murphy

I wanted the chance to tell you all how much we love our dog, Murphy. We adopted him from The Lexington Humane Society a few weeks ago, but now we couldn't imagine our home without him. He is so well behaved, and he knows lots of tricks! He loves to play, but he is also fine with occupying himself if needed.

He is so fun to be with and well behaved, I can't imagine why someone would have given him up. Wherever they are, I'm sure they miss him terribly.  Thank you to the Lexington Humane Society for giving us the opportunity to help out by giving a homeless pet a new home. He has added so much to our lives as well. I've been telling anyone I know to go to you all to adopt a pet. Hopefully more people will begin to help out and discover how rewarding it can be to be a pet owner!

Millie

I had been thinking about getting a dog for a long time, but never followed through with it. My friend finally convinced me that I should adopt instead of buying one, so I made a trip to the Lexington Humane Society.  I walked into the "puppy room" and looked into the first cage.  There was "Daisy", the most precious Beagle mix with the biggest brown eyes I had ever seen.  I instantly fell in love.  She was so cute and playful! We went into the Get Acquainted room and Daisy instantly jumped up onto my lap.  Right then and there I knew that she had to be mine! I texted my father a picture of Daisy because he was a big proponent of me getting a dog. He said that he already loved her by looking at her picture, so that was that - Daisy was going home with me! I have since re-named her Millie, and she has been the best thing that has ever happened to me!  She is so loving, cuddly, and funny.  Every time I say "let's go to grandma and grandpa's" she jumps at the door and wags her tail. She absolutely loves my mom and dad.  She sleeps with me every night and has really made my life much happier.  It wouldn't be the same without her around!!  Thanks so much LHS for giving me my precious angel!
